When smart speakers became a regular household item in 2016, our founder, Dave Nickel, wanted to join in this technological revolution. As a lover of all things technology, he saw the benefits of how these devices could make our lives easier, but was concerned when he learned the way they work is to perpetually listen and track our activities in order to better serve us. In 2019 as more and more news stories came out about smartphones and speakers recording private conversations, accidentally placing orders, and falsely activating throughout the day, he decided to do something about it. That's when Pozio was born.

While smartphones and apps come with privacy settings, and there are countless third-party security apps you can use to try to protect your data, David thought there has got to be a better way to protect our privacy while still using the devices we love. He gathered a team of cybersecurity experts, industrial designers, sound engineers, and more to create a device that would block your device from hearing you at the source, your mic.
